TMG host first workshop for FIDA

03 May TMG host first workshop for FIDA

Last Sunday, The Modern Game had the privledge of facilitating our first workshop in a series of partnership initiatives we have with for Football Integration Football Association (FIDA). The workshop was on the topic of “Developing Effective Kicking in the Modern Era” and we were lucky enough to utilise the Carlton Football Club (Visy Park) to deliver the session.

What a fantastic turnout we had; there was 70 people in attendance, ranging from League Representatives, Coaches, Club People, Carers and of course, the players from various clubs.  A number of clubs were represented, with many coming from Metropolitan Melbourne however we should not forget those that made the trip from areas like North Ballarat – a fantastic commitment!

The day kicked off at 12 noon where everyone received a tour of the Carlton Elite Training Facilities and we then delivered the kicking workshop.  We started in the Carlton Thearette where we conducted a presentation and then we all went outside and participated in a number of kicking drills; the purpose was to educate players on the important elements of the kicking technique and provide them with some drills for the coaches and players to take away with them to fast track their improvement. We then finished off with a BBQ where everyone enjoyed a bite to eat and a chat – the day finishing at 3pm.

A special thankyou to Logan Whitaker from FIDA for running the day and encouraging the wider FIDA community to come along and get involved.  Thank you also to Shawn Wilkey for allowing us to utilise the Carlton Football Club to host the day and for the fantastic tour of the facilities. The Modern Game would like to thank everyone who came along to support the initative; we hope you enjoyed the experience and learnt more about the art of kicking so you can each improve this important skill in our great game!

At the conclusion of the day, The Modern Game was really excited about positive way in which the day had been received and it simply re-inforced the very reason we decided to partner with FIDA; giving back to community and providing opportunities to others is such a rewarding and satisfying experience.

Stay tuned ‘FIDA Community’ for the next workshop.
