The Upper Ferntree Gully JFC / The Modern Game partnership is moving into a 3rd year and continues to evolve and grow. After a successful season the Ferntree Gully - Belgrave Mail made contact with the president of the club (Bruce Begley) to enquire about what the club is potentially doing different to other junior clubs.
Over the past 12 months, The Modern Game has been delivering a range of coaches development workshops to a number of junior clubs. Given the amount of positive feedback, we have decided to open up the opportunity to all junior clubs and/or coaches.
The Modern Game's catchcry is "Where Winning = Development & Improvement" so when coaches focus on winning (via scoreboard results), we encourage them to embrace our catchcry. On the flip side, we also have coaches approach us to discuss how they handle a situation where their team loses most weeks.
In our involvement with junior football clubs, The Modern Game are continually speaking with coaches about the importance of their role on game day and in the recent addition of the AFL Community Club Newsletter, Peter Schwab has written an article on the topic.
